Vancouver: Blockade at Chinese Consulate

August 6, 2008 · Print This Article

Tashi Chogyal, a 21-year-old Tibetan from Portland, locked himself to an actual size model of a Chinese tank, blockading the entry to the Chinese Consulate in Vancouver, Canada.  Tashi was dressed as a monk and was laying before the tank as if being run over, and the tank had “Beijing 2008: One World One Dream,” the official slogan of the 2008 Olympics, emblazoned on its side.  Tashi refused to unlock himself, and after over an hour police forcibly removed him and arrested him.  He was released after a few hours with several charges.
