With two and a half days till the opening ceremonies, things are heating up on the activist front.
This morning, we got news that Team Darfur founder and Olympic speed skating champion Joey Cheek had his Chinese visa revoked less than 24 hours before he was scheduled to fly to Beijing.
Around the same time, four Tibetan activists were putting up two large banners outside the Bird’s Nest stadium and unfurling Tibetan flags near the venue. According to Students for a Free Tibet, the banners were up for close to an hour before the activists were detained by authorities. The group says the whereabouts of the four are currently unknown.
Chinese authorities have said that there will be little tolerance for unauthorized protest activity and have designated three official protest zones away from the main Olympic venues, but prospective protesters still have to apply to police for permission to stage demonstrations in those areas. In the past, permission for legal protests has rarely been granted.

Tibet belongs to China and is free. Thank you.
I wonder how many of your people know where Tibet exactly located at, or know just a little bit on their history! If you do, you will not be doing the protest. Why don’t you say “Free Hawaii” that the island was taken by American by force? Don’t tell me that because the Hawaiian loves to be part of America and they are having their freedom. How about “Free Native American”? Can they get back their land? American killed the parents and sent their children to boarding school in order to eliminate their culture that is all written and taught in U.S. history even in high school. So before you are motivated by the other, learn who they really are and the motive behind them. Don’t underestimate CIA, if they can even kill JFK.

There have been countless incidents of genocide and overthrow of an indigenous race/culture throughout history (American indians, Nazi genocide, the African slave trade…) but just because these events happened in the past, or are happening in other parts of the world as we speak, doesn’t mean we should allow the personal, historical and cultural destruction of Tibet. This is the most recent glaring example of a human rights attrocity, made all the worse by the extreme pacifism and compassion of the Tibetan people. Unfortunately most of the world has a vested economic interest in appeasing China and very little incentive to aid Tibet (there are no oil fields or other natural/economic resourses to plunder). The attrocities in Tibet need to be addressed.
Can’t you all just stop destroying the Olympic Games?!?! They have NOTHING to do with Tibet!
Even if it was right what you’re saying (it’s not - Tibet was always a part of China), your tiny protests are nothing to the Chinese President. It’s no use continueing!!!
